FROM HARSH MARCH WINDS…
From harsh March winds to warm April breezes
Let’s give them haven from torment and teases,
From cages too small and lives much too hard
To couches with pillows and large fenced yards.
The cast-offs, the drop-offs, the ones judged too plain:
It matters not from whence they came.
In each resides a life worth sharing
In adoptive homes with love and caring.
She to the old gent with wrinkled hand;
He to the children who’ll play on demand.
This one to the childless for a life that’s replete;
That one to a family to make it complete.
Let’s look to our own and feel what we feel,
Then think of the others who scrounge for a meal.
Who huddle and shiver in below-zero weather
Straining and lunging on too shortened tether.
We’re given so much from those that we choose,
Let’s give something back: we’ve nothing to lose.
The return is most beautiful in more ways than one—
The conscience is clear when each day is done.
Turn hangdog expressions and cowering tails
To boundless joy that so tips the scales.
Let’s each of us offer whatever he pleases
To change the March winds to soft April breezes.

Each year, hundreds of Dobermans are given up to shelters across the country by owners who can no longer keep them for a variety of reasons. In addition, hundreds of others are saved from certain death at the hands of cruel and abusive caretakers. In other cases, organized rescue groups remove breeding adults and puppies from deplorable puppy mill situations. And always there are those who stray far from home and live on unfamiliar streets.
With proper care and training and huge amounts of unconditional love, these Dobermans get second chances to lead full, enriching, and productive lives as devoted companions.
If you are not interested in conformation showing and simply want a wonderful companion for you and your family, please consider opening your home to an adopted Dobe. You will be saving a life while greatly enhancing your own.
The Pine Tree State Doberman Pinscher Club works closely with the non-profit Doberman Rescue Unlimited, Inc., in Sandown, NH.
