DOES SHE SEEM TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING?
DOES HE REFUSE TO GO OUT IN THE RAIN?
DOES SHE LOVE TO RUN AND RUN?

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'VE GOT A DOBE!

The Doberman Pinscher is a medium-sized, square dog---compactly built, muscular, and powerful---with the capacity for great endurance and speed. Weight ranges from 65-85 pounds and the height range is from 24"-28." Dobermans are elegant in appearance, proud in carriage, reflecting a great nobility and temperament. Dobermans should be energetic, watchful, determined, fearless, and obedient.

This elegant and noble breed is easily recognized and often misunderstood by the general public. Years of media portrayal of the Doberman as a "vicious attack dog" led to many public relations problems for the serious breeders and owners who know the breed for what it is--intensely loyal, highly intelligent, and very affectionate.

People who are considering getting a Doberman as a companion should be prepared to match or exceed all of the above character traits if they anticipate a long and happy life with one of these highly intelligent dogs.

The Doberman Pinscher is a "people" breed; it does not thrive well unattended in kennels or tied out in the back yard. Dobermans prefer riding with you on errands, cuddling with you while you watch television, leaning against you while you read the paper, and babysitting your kids at play

Ownership of a Doberman should not be undertaken by everyone: if you are willing to give and receive tremendous amounts of affection and devotion, the Doberman may well indeed be the ideal companion for you. However, if you are looking for a docile, uncomplicated pet, which will be content amusing herself, do NOT get a Doberman.

Yes, they are protective of those they consider theirs; but the well-raised and well-socialized Doberman has the capacity to judge what truly needs attention and can readily distinguish between friend and foe.

An energetic breed, the Doberman needs plenty of exercise and an owner who can firmly establish household rules. But because of its high level of intelligence and sensitivity, the Doberman does not tolerate heavy-handed, harsh training methods. And owner who can stay one step ahead of his or her dog, who can use plenty of motivation and reward, and who can acknowledge the thinking abilities of the breed will be rewarded with love and devotion unequaled in any other breed.

Well-bred and well-socialized Dobermans make great companions for those who set clear boundaries and who do not mind a dog that has an intense need for human touch and attention. Dobermans MUST have a close physical and mental association with their people and the ONLY reason to have a Doberman is to consider him an equal member of your family.
